Eat, eat, eat: One of my favorite thing about going on vacation is discovering quirky cafes and great dishes. So, I've scoured through a few spots to stop by in the Joshua Tree region. Also, I suggest if you're driving in from the L.A. area, to stop by Hadley Fruit Orchard and get a date shake. You won't be disappointed.

Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace: This lunch and dinner spot features live music and a dish called "Nachos Von Rabbit." Enough said.

Crossroads Cafe: Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this cafe too serves some amazingly named dishes like the "Messie Jessie" and "Biker Scram."

And some smaller bites...

The Jelly Donut: Who doesn't need a jelly donut while exploring the desert?

The Joshua Tree Farmers Market: It features a variety of fruits and veggies from the region and local crafts. Every Saturday.

And now that' you're so full that you're unable to move fast, it's time to shop and browse...

Kitschy Museum Stop: This tiny crochet museum is everything your vacation needs. Just a trip to their website is pretty amazing.

Outdoor art tour: Co-founded by one of my favorite artists, Andrea Zittel, the High Desert Test Sites explores the connection of land and art through various outdoor pieces across the desert. Stop by their office in Joshua Tree, to pick up a map of where to find these pieces.

Next up, hiking and must see spots in Joshua Tree National Park...
